Electricians in Midwest City, from 1940s Tinker-era homes to new builds

Midwest City was built in 1942 for the people who worked at Tinker. Many of those original houses are still standing, and so is a lot of their original wiring.

Quick answer

We cover Midwest City from our south Oklahoma City service office. The city was founded in 1942 beside the Midwest Air Depot, now Tinker Air Force Base, and incorporated in 1943, so much of the housing is postwar. Panel replacements, partial rewiring, grounding upgrades and storm repairs are the jobs we do most often here.

Homes in Midwest City

What the housing looks like in Midwest City

W.P. Atkinson planned Midwest City as a model town beside the Midwest Air Depot, and it was incorporated on March 11, 1943. Homes from those first decades were built for far smaller electrical loads than a modern kitchen, central air and an EV demand, often with small panels and ungrounded circuits.

Parts of the city northwest of Tinker were badly damaged by the May 3, 1999 tornado, which did high-end F4 damage there and destroyed numerous homes, so some streets are rebuilt and others are original.

Utility and permits

Utility, permits and inspections in Midwest City

In the original neighborhoods we often find panels that have been added onto by several owners, two-prong outlets, and grounding that was never updated. We test before quoting, fix what is unsafe first, and plan upgrades so the house can carry central air and modern appliances. Permits for work inside city limits come from the City of Midwest City.
