Quick answer

Our electricians cover Oklahoma County from two offices inside it, a service office in south Oklahoma City and a head office in Bethany. Inside the county the utility depends on the address: most of the metro is on OG&E, Edmond runs its own municipal utility, and some outlying addresses are on an electric cooperative. Permits come from whichever city the address sits in.

Homes in Oklahoma County

What the housing looks like in Oklahoma County

Oklahoma County holds the oldest housing in the metro and some of the newest. Choctaw is the oldest chartered town in Oklahoma Territory, Nichols Hills was laid out in 1929, and Del City and Midwest City were built in a rush in the 1940s around what became Tinker Air Force Base. Each of those eras left its own wiring: early cloth and knob and tube near downtown, small fuse and breaker panels in the postwar suburbs, and aluminum branch circuits in homes built or expanded from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s.

That spread is why we start every visit in this county by looking at the panel and the age of the house before quoting anything. The same symptom, a breaker that trips or a light that flickers, means different things in a 1948 Del City bungalow and a 2015 Edmond two-story.

Utility and permits

Utility, permits and inspections in Oklahoma County

The county is a patchwork of separate cities. Oklahoma City, Edmond, Midwest City, Del City, Bethany, Warr Acres, The Village, Nichols Hills and Choctaw each issue their own permits, and Edmond Electric, a city-owned utility, serves Edmond instead of OG&E. When a job needs the meter pulled or a permit filed, we confirm the city and the utility for that exact address first, so nothing is held up waiting on the wrong office.

How a visit to Oklahoma County works

  • Call the main line; a person answers at any hour and asks what you are seeing, hearing or smelling.
  • Your electrician comes from whichever of our two offices is closer.
  • Meter pulls and reconnects are coordinated with Edmond Electric, the city utility.
  • Permits and inspections go through the city or county the address is in.
  • A photo of the panel label helps us bring the right parts on the first visit.
  • Anything dangerous is made safe on the spot before the repair is quoted.
  • Every circuit we touch is labeled in the panel before we leave.
