EV Chargers & Backup Power, answered 24/7

EV charger installation in Oklahoma City, sized to the car, the charger and your panel

A Level 2 charger adds a large, long-running load to the house. The install is simple when the panel can carry it and a project when it cannot, so we check the panel first.

Quick answer

EV charger installation in Oklahoma City is a dedicated 240-volt circuit from the panel to the garage or driveway, either hardwired to a Level 2 charger such as a Tesla Wall Connector or ChargePoint Home Flex, or ending in a NEMA 14-50 outlet for a plug-in charger. We run a load calculation first, size the circuit to the charger, file the permit, and set the charger current to match.

Why the panel decides the job

What an EV charger install involves

Charging at home turns the car into one of the largest loads in the house, often 32 to 48 amps running for hours overnight. A 200-amp panel with room to spare handles that easily. A full 100-amp panel in a 1970s house may not, and the answer there might be a load management device, a smaller charging current or a panel upgrade. We work that out before quoting, so there are no surprises on install day.

Once the panel is sorted the install is straightforward: a dedicated circuit from the panel to the charging spot, sized to the charger, GFCI protected where code requires, and either hardwired to the charger or ending in a heavy-duty NEMA 14-50 receptacle. We set the charger current in its app to match the circuit and do a first charge with your car before we leave.

What moves the price

What decides the cost of an EV charger install

  • Distance from the panel A charger beside the panel is quick; across the house or to a detached garage is not.
  • Charging current Higher amperage means heavier wire and a larger breaker.
  • Hardwired or outlet Hardwiring skips the receptacle; industrial-grade 14-50 outlets cost more than builder grade.
  • Panel capacity A full or small panel may need load management or an upgrade.
  • Route Open garage walls are fast; finished walls and trenching take longer.
  • Charger model You can supply the charger or we can source it.
  • Permit and inspection Included in every install.

2026 estimates put a Level 2 EV charger install at about $1,200 to $3,500, and a 240-volt EV circuit alone at about $500 to $2,000. National planning ranges, not our price.

Hardwired, plug-in, Tesla and detached garages

Level 2 hardwired charger

Hardwiring connects the charger directly to its circuit with no plug in between. It allows higher charging currents on chargers that support them, avoids receptacle wear from daily plugging, and is required by some chargers at their highest settings. We mount the charger where the cable reaches the charge port comfortably, run the circuit to it, and configure the current in the app. Most homes choose 40 or 48 amp charging, which adds a full day of driving range overnight.

NEMA 14-50 outlet

A NEMA 14-50 is a heavy-duty 240-volt receptacle that many portable and plug-in chargers use, and it lets you take the charger with you if you move. The receptacle must be a quality industrial-grade device, because cheap ones overheat under hours of continuous charging, and the circuit gets GFCI protection. We usually set it up for 32 amps of charging on a 40 or 50 amp circuit. It is a good choice when you already own a plug-in charger or expect to change cars.

Tesla Wall Connector

The Tesla Wall Connector is hardwired and can charge at up to 48 amps on a 60-amp circuit, or lower if the panel is tight. It also supports power sharing, where two Wall Connectors split one circuit for a two-EV household. We install it, set the circuit breaker size during commissioning in the Tesla app, and confirm the car sees the charger correctly. Non-Tesla vehicles with the newer connector standard can use it as well, which is worth considering if you plan to change brands.

Detached garage charger

When the car parks in a detached garage or carport, the charger circuit has to reach it underground. We trench to code depth or bore under the driveway, run conduit, and either feed the charger directly or set a small subpanel in the garage if the building also needs lights, outlets or a shop circuit. Planning the conduit size for a future second charger costs little extra while the trench is open and saves digging it again later, and we mark the route on a sketch for you.

Oklahoma City conditions

Permits and inspections for EV circuits in Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City treats an EV charger circuit like any other new circuit: it is permitted through Development Services and inspected before it is signed off. A charger is also a large continuous load, so on older panels it is often the addition that tips a house past its capacity, which is why we pair every quote with a load calculation. The permit and inspection add a short wait, and we file both as soon as the charger and location are chosen.

How long it takes

How long the install takes

Most garage installs near the panel take two to four hours. Longer runs, finished walls or a detached garage take a day or more, and a panel upgrade adds its own day. Power is off only while the new breaker is landed. The permit and inspection may add a few days between install and sign-off.
